Who We Are
We are Ursuline sisters living in the UK and form part of a religious order that reaches across the globe. We are women called to follow Christ and to spread his kingdom in today’s world. Although we are called Ursulines, we were founded by Angela Merici who came from Desenzano in Lake Garda, Italy. She chose to put her new company under the patronage of the early English saint, St Ursula; a saint popular in the middle ages as Patroness of learning. It was a particularly appropriate choice, as it reflected St Angela’s concern for the development and fulfilment of women. As a teaching order, it is this zeal that has continued to inspire Ursulines for nearly 500 years.
Hear the name Ursuline and immediately it conjures up schools. We are proud of our tradition in education and pleased to find it continued in our schools today. The Ursuline Education Community student profile supports and expands the Ursuline ethos.
